How will you celebrate National Eucalypt Day on 23 March. This annual event draws attention to the vast array of species, many of which are only found in Australia. There are over 900 species in Australia forming the background for areas as diverse as mountain forests to deserts, in protected areas, reserves, parklands and backyards.

Planting a tree is good way to celebrate the day, taking care to consider how large it will grow (height, width and reach of its roots) along with the necessary conditions for the chosen species. Another great way to to engage in Eucalypt Australia’s annual poll, Eucalypt of the Year.

Eucalypt is an umbrella term covering three distinct genera, Eucalyptus, Angophora and Corymbia. Classification of trees within these genera have changed over time, increasingly with the use of genetics rather than observation for identification.

Do you have a species you love but unsure what its name is. Use this free resource for identification – Eculid.
